Free Parking Program

University City and Loop Special Business District Announce Free Parking

July 12, 2021, University City – The City of University City and the Loop Special Business District (LSBD) have partnered to provide free parking within the Delmar Loop. Except for the parking garage, all parking on Delmar Blvd. and adjacent side streets will be free now through the end of the year. Stickers noting the waiver of parking fees will be placed on impacted meters in the upcoming week.

“The goal of providing free parking is to bring more visitors to the Loop in the hopes that they will patronize the restaurants and shops within the business district,” said Mayor Terry Crow. “These businesses have been hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and now that restrictions are lifting, we hope to support these businesses, many of which are small, individually owned operations, get back on their feet.”

“This is a critical time for businesses to recoup some of their losses experienced during the height of the COVID shutdown,” said Michael Alter, Chairman of the LSBD board. “The temporary waiving of parking fees will make it even easier for patrons to visit the Loop during our busiest time of year in terms of special events and the holiday shopping season.”

The City and the LSBD ask that the public be considerate to ensure that business patrons have access to convenient parking spaces. Loop businesses are encouraged to notify their patrons of the available free parking and to remind their employees not to use the metered parking.

About the Loop Special Business District: Formally established in 1980 as a special taxing district to raise money for improvements such as streetscape enhancements, store awnings, eye-catching holiday decorations, and signature special events, the LSBD is a collaboration of building owners and merchants. While the LSBD works closely with the City, it is a separate entity governed by a board of directors.
